Tom Cruise is set to star in Oscar-winning “The Revenant” and “Birdman” director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s next English-language feature.
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment are reportedly in negotiations for the project, which is currently untitled and will be directed, produced and co-written by Inarritu.
His “Birdman” co-writers Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris, and Nicolas Giacobone are also on board the project, which will mark the first film from Cruise as part of his strategic partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures announced last month.
The project is under tight wraps with not even a hint at the genre, let alone a story that is said to be an Inarritu original. Cruise is said to be one of the first meetings the director is having with a select few actors.
Cruise was reportedly on board as soon as his meeting with Inarritu was finished. It follows a report the other day indicating Cruise is keen to star in more awards-fare titles again – something he’s not really tackled since “Magnolia” back in 1999.
The project will mark Inarritu’s first major studio since “The Revenant” in 2015 which earned more than $500 million at the worldwide box office.
