A new feature piece up at THR has gone into details about the “creative retooling” of various projects at Marvel Studios following the failures of several of the company’s works like “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” “Secret Invasion” and “The Marvels” last year.

The studio is riding high on the huge numbers for the trailer for “Deadpool and Wolverine,” which saw 365 million watching it, and “X-Men ’97” which had the biggest trailer launch for an animated series on Disney+ ever.

Several new details have emerged from the article. First up, the planned reshoots for “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries” were reportedly completed in just a single day rather than the five days of reshoots normally scheduled as standard on MCU works.

Next, Eric Pearson (“Thor: Ragnarok,” “Black Widow”) has been quietly hired to polish the script for the new “Fantastic Four” which aims to shoot this Summer.

Marvel has also hired “The Bear” showrunner Joanna Calo to work on the script for “Thunderbolts” which will begin shooting in March in Atlanta.

One thing not so clear is if the Kang the Conqueror character will be minimised or dropped entirely. What is happening though is that the “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” title has been ditched and Marvel was already making moves to minimize the character after ‘Quantumania’ underperformed.

The TV side will give greater control to showrunners, citing the way executive producer Kyle Bradstreet was sidelined on “Secret Invasion” as part of the reason.

One person who has commented on the changes is actor Mark Ruffalo. Speaking with GQ, the Hulk star understands the fan exhaustion with Marvel pumping out too much output:

“I think the expansion into streaming was really exciting, but the thing about Marvel movies is you had to wait three years and that created a mystique. These corrections could be really positive things. Will it be what it was? I don’t know.”

“X-Men ’97” on March 20th and “Deadpool and Wolverine” on July 26th will be the next Marvel Studios titles set for release.
