Finally, actor Hiroyuki Sanada has confirmed he’s returning in the upcoming “Mortal Kombat” sequel.

The actor, out promoting FX’s new “Shogun” series alongside Cosmo Jarvis, tells ComicBook.com that he’s definitely back and recently just wrapped filming in Australia on his role as Scorpion/Hanzo Hasashi in the movie.

He was also asked if he gets to punch Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage character in the face to which he laughs and indicates he’s not sure what to say to that.

Sanada has oddly taken a long time to confirm as being in the film as he wasn’t photographed on set and his name was seemingly absent from early press releases tied to the film’s production. This, thankfully, ends any potential recast chatter.

Simon McQuoid directs the new film from a screenplay written by “Moon Knight” head writer Jeremy Slater. Almost all the main cast from the first film are back with Sanda including Josh Lawson as Kano, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han/Sub-Zero, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Max Huang as Kung Lao, and Chin Han as Shang Tsung.

They will be joined by Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, CJ. Bloomfield as Baraka, Martyn Ford as Emperor Shao Kahn, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Desmond Chiam as Edenian King Jerrod and Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel.

The New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures film was shot in Queensland, Australia. No word on a release date at this time.
