Despite the mixed reviews, Paramount Pictures’ “Bob Marley: One Love” is looking to come in well above expectations at the box-office.

The film debuted on Wednesday, Valentine’s Day, to $14 million domestically on its first day of release – the best mid-week Valentine’s Day haul in box-office history. It also pulled in a further $5 million overseas from just ten markets.

As a result, estimates for the weekend have been revised upwards with the Friday-Sunday haul at $22 million, the four-day Presidents Day holiday weekend (Fri-Mon) up to $26.2 million, and a six-day (Wed-Mon) take of $44 million.

Critics might have been mixed, but audience reviews are much higher with the movie nabbing a superb A CinemaScore from exit polls and a 94% (4.6/5) audience score on Rotten Tomatoes – far better than the 42% it’s sitting on with critics.

The film was produced on a reported budget of $70 million and will easily beat the Dakota Johnson-led “Madame Web” which is looking at $12 million for the three-day, $14 million for the four-day and $22.2 million for the six-day.

That’s below the $26 million it was projected to earn prior to launch, and that films’ woeful C+ CinemaScore – the exact same as Sony’s last SPUMC franchise launcher “Morbius”.
