New reports have emerged that Nintendo plans to release its successor to the Switch in the first quarter of next year.
O X do Controle podcast broke the news, confirming his information from five different inside sources and adding that multiple games are currently in the pipeline to be released for the new console.
VGC has since corroborated the story, adding that there was a delay from a late 2024 release so the company could prepare stronger first-party software line-up for the console in time for launch.
The Switch was announced October 2016 ahead of a March 2017 launch, so it’s quite possible the next-gen Nintendo console will follow a similar timeline.
During the company’s most recent earnings call, President Shuntaro Furukawa declined to talk about Nintendo’s specific plans. The company’s plans for the next fiscal year (running until April 2025) will be shared at its next earnings briefing in May.
The new console is expected to retain the portable functionality of its predecessor.
