“American Psycho” and “The Rules of Attraction” author Bret Easton Ellis is set to make his directorial debut on the elevated horror film “Relapse”.
Joseph Quinn (“Stranger Things”) stars in the film as Matt Cullen, a man who checks into rehab after witnessing a horrific death during a drugged-up party.
Three months later, he’s trying to get his life back together at his parent’s mansion in the hills of Los Angeles. Fueled by an unstable personality and the invading power of social media, Matt’s paranoia grows.
As he starts using again, a mysterious presence starts growing around Matt, and a monster that has been haunting him since he was a teenager reveals itself.
His therapist tries to help, convinced that the monster is actually in Matt’s head. DDT Studios (“Society of the Snow”) will handle the film’s creature design.
Adrian Guerra and Simon Wallon will produce the project which will be teased at the EFM with a sizzle reel. The news comes as Ellis’ latest book “The Shards,” a semi-autobiographical serial killer novel, has been optioned by HBO for a mini-series.
Quinn will be seen later this year in the films “A Quiet Place: Day One” and the “Gladiator” sequel.
