A recent posting on actor Inaki Godoy’s social media accounts seem to have answered a question some fans have had about the upcoming second season of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of manga and anime franchise giant “One Piece”.
The posting sees Godoy, who plays leading man Monkey D. Luffy in the series, visiting Abu Dhabi for a Comic-Con event there alongside actors like Oscar Isaac, Loki’s Sophia Di Martino, and his “One Piece” co-star Taz Skylar.
He poses with a camel with a direct nod to the character ‘Eyelash’ (aka Matsuge). That character is a camel who accompanies the Straw Hat Pirates during the Arabasta Arc.
Godoy also posted the caption: “It was great meeting so many of you guys, thank you for all your love. Can’t wait to go back to the desert soon.”
That seems to confirm that the new season will tackle the Arabasta arc of the manga and anime in the second run. Whereas several of the post-Arlong Park arcs like Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak & Little Garden could easily be shrunk to single (or even partial) episodes, and Drum Island as a two-parter, Arabasta is one of the longest early arcs and is expected to run a minimum of three or four episodes.
Thus it wasn’t clear if the show would be able to fit the arc into its second season run. Now it looks like it will, but also raises the question of how many episodes the new run will have.
Either way we’re seemingly guaranteed the introduction of numerous key characters next season – Tony Tony Chopper, Nico Robin, Portgas D. Ace, Smoker, Crocodile, Princess Vivi, and potentially even a first glimpse of Monkey D. Dragon.
Production on the second season is expected to get underway in South Africa shortly.
