Nearly three years ago came the news of the consolidation of the major two anime streaming services – Crunchyroll and Funimation following Sony Entertainment’s acquisition of the latter.

In the time since, both services have existed simultaneously with Crunchyroll having absorbed Funimation’s content into itself. Now, Funimation has officially announced it is fully shutting down this spring.

In a press release, Funimation has set April 2nd as the official date its service, app and website will shut up shop once and for all – the unification of their content complete under the Crunchyroll banner.

They say in the press release: “Rest assured, this transition will not impact your access to the vast library of anime available on Crunchyroll. We remain committed to delivering the best anime streaming experience and will continue to expand our offerings to cater to your diverse interests.”

One big change, though, is that according to Crunchyroll, it will not “support Funimation Digital copies” – so access to previously available digital copies will not be supported.

More details are available at Funimation.com including a Q&A section explaining other questions any users of both services may have.
