Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Dune: Part Two” appeared on early projections today and the numbers are a little crazy.
Estimates are the film will have an opening weekend of at least $65 million – 59-83% higher than the first “Dune” film’s $41 million debut in 2021. Others are suggesting higher – closer to $80 million.
Tickets went on sale a few weeks back, and the film is reportedly pacing ahead of the advance ticket sales of “Oppenheimer” which was projected for $40-50 million but ended up debuting at $82 million.
The box-office is in need of a boost as it’s already pacing 13% behind last year due to a lack of major features in cinemas. Exhibitors are expected to push this hard.
Warner Bros. Pictures continues ramping up the promos for the film with the 2021 “Dune: Part One” set to re-release in cinemas, including IMAX, from tomorrow for one week.
That release will include a sneak peek of “Dune: Part Two,” as will the re-release of Nolan’s “Tenet” on February 23rd. Check out the extended sandworm riding sequence clip from the new film below.
“Dune: Part Two” hits cinemas on March 1st.
