The other week came the news that Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken” power ballad from Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie is officially nominated for best song at the Oscars.
Upon its nomination, speculation quickly arose as to whether Gosling himself will perform the number during the broadcast as is often tradition.
Mark Ronson, the song’s co-writer and the film’s soundtrack producer, was asked that very question by Variety on the red carpet of the Grammys tonight in Los Angeles.
Ronson says he doesn’t know but it “would be great” if he did. He asked the interviewer: “Did he confirm to you? I want to know … it’s my dream! It’s my dream.”
Ronson then quickly shot down the possibility of another singer taking on the number: “No. I think if Ryan doesn’t do it then we’re not doing it.”
Gosling himself has played coy regarding the question saying “I haven’t been invited.” Billie Eilish and Finneas’ song “What Was I Made For?,” which was also from the “Barbie” soundtrack, is expected to take the award. Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” song for the movie is also in contention.
The Academy Awards will air on ABC on March 10th.
