The prequel to Starz’s “Outlander” has begun production in Scotland with the core cast having just been announced.
“Outlander: Blood of My Blood” will focus on the parents of the leads in the main series – namely Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) mother and father in 18th century Scotland, and Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) parents in WW1-era England.
Harriet Slater (“Pennyworth”) and Jamie Roy (“Your Boyfriend Is Mine”) will play Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser ho eventually become Jamie’s parents. Hermione Corfield (“We Hunt Together”) and Jeremy Irvine (“Stonewall”) will play Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, Claire’s parents.
Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner of both the main and spin-off series says:
“We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples/. The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods, and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie.”
Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis will executive produce and author Diana Gabaldon is a consulting producer.
The second half of the seventh season of “Outlander” is set to air later this year with an eighth and final installment on the way.
