Rising French filmmaker Sebastien Vanicek (“Vermines”) has been set as co-writer and director of a new spin-off of the “Evil Dead” franchise.
The project has been set up at Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures, which produces the franchise. Details regarding the film’s storyline are under wraps.
The horror comedy franchise was famously created by Raimi and began with the 1981 film starring Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams.
The film spawned two direct sequels “Evil Dead 2” and “Army of Darkness,” a follow-up Starz TV series “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” a remake of the original and more recently the standalone film “Evil Dead Rise”.
Raimi helmed the two direct sequels and executive produced the others with Fede Alvarez helming the remake whilst Lee Cronin directed ‘Rise’ which grossed more than $147 million worldwide last year.
Vaniček made his feature directorial debut with “Infested” (Vermines) last year about a rundown French apartment building whose residents face off against an infestation of rapidly reproducing spiders.
