Out promoting Matthew Vaughn’s new spy thriller/comedy “Argylle,” actor Sam Rockwell says he’d happily return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Rockwell starred in “Iron Man 2” as the film’s secondary villain Justin Hammer, a military contractor and rival to Tony Stark who recruited Ivan Vanko/Whiplash (Mickey Rourke) in an attempt to bring down Stark and replicate the Arc Reactor technology.
We last saw him in the post-credits of the “All Hail the King” short film where he was imprisoned in Seagate Penitentiary doing an interview for a documentary and seemingly with an inmate boyfriend.
Appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night, he was asked about a potential appearance in the “Armor Wars” movie. He says: “well, I’m waiting for the phone call” before joking that: “I’m growing the beard and everything.”
He adds that though it has been a while since he played Hammer, he’s “in” if Marvel wants him to return. “Armor Wars,” originally conceived as a series before being reconfigured as a film, sees James Rhodes confront one of Tony Stark’s greatest fears when Stark’s Iron Man tech falls into the wrong hands.
The film serve as a follow-up to both the already aired “Secret Wars” and the upcoming “Ironheart” with Dominique Thorne expected to reprise her role as Riri Williams/Ironheart for the film which is likely to be a part of Marvel’s ‘Phase Five’.
Rockwell more recently reprised his role, albeit voice only, for the latest season of “What If…?”.
