By Sony, Warner Bros. Pictures and Universal Pictures are all reportedly vying for the new untitled period vampire thriller that will reunite filmmaker Ryan Coogler and actor Michael B. Jordan according to Deadline.
The film’s budget is reportedly around $90 million and the aim is for Coogler to start production as early as this summer with the property said to be a “true star vehicle” for Jordan.
The trade adds that there has also been discussion of potential co-ownership of the IP, and a large number is being thrown around for the film’s worldwide rights.
A full worldwide theatrical release is key to this, which is why studios rather than streamers are the ones in play. Coogler, Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian will produce.
Coogler and Jordan first teamed on the 2013 indie drama “Fruitvale Station” which served as a breakout vehicle for Coogler and a leading man breakthrough role for Jordan.
They subsequently teamed on the “Creed” and the Marvel Studios sensation “Black Panther”. All three films received major criticial acclaim with the latter two also box-office hits.
