Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress Gillian Anderson has signed on to join the cast of the third “TRON” film “TRON: Ares” at Disney.
The story will reportedly focus on the emergence of Ares, a sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is not ready for contact.
Further details of the story are under wraps as are details of Anderson’s character. The new film is expected to spend more time in the real world than the digital ones of the first two movies.
She joins a cast that includes Jared Leto as the human manifestation of that program. Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Sarah Desjardins and Cameron Monaghan are also part of the cast.
Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Rønning (“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”) directs the film from a script by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne.
Emma Ludbrook, Jeffrey Springer, and Leto are producing. The project, which stalled in pre-production due to the strikes, finally went into production in Vancouver, Canada late last week.
