Three major studios are reportedly in a fight to win the rights to Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s “28 Years Later” according to a new report at The InSneider.
First announced nearly two weeks ago, the film revives the “28 Days Later” franchise ans is tipped to be the start of a potential whole new trilogy of films.
Boyle is attached to direct the first installment with Garland set to write all three, with both producing. The budget for each film is tipped to be in the $75 million range.
The new report indicates Warner Bros. Pictures, Universal Pictures, and Paramount Pictures are all in the mix with one pulling ahead as the current frontrunner – Warners.
One source says they’d be surprised if the film landed at Paramount after Garland’s collaboration with them on “Annihilation”.
Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice will also produce the project. Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harrie, Christopher Eccleston and Brendan Gleeson starred in the 2000 original which had a major impact on the zombie genre.
