By Several films are set to shift dates. First up Alex Garland’s “Civil War” has been moved up two weeks by distributor A24.
Originally slated for April 26th, the film will now open on April 12th. The move is seen as a good one as only one film, the little promoted indie “LaRoy,” was slated for the 12th whereas Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers” would’ve put up a fight on the 26th.
Set in the near future, the story follows a team of journalists travel across the United States during a rapidly escalating civil war that has engulfed the entire nation.
A24 has also announced a March 1st limited release date for “Los Espookys” co-creator Julio Torres’ surrealist comedy “Problemista”. The film will be a platform release, hitting its wide opening on March 22nd.
Torres, Tilda Swinton, Isabella Rossellini and Larry Owens co-star in the film about an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador who takes a job assisting an erratic art-world outcast.
Next, the James McAvoy-led Blumhouse thriller “Speak No Evil” has been pushed back from August 9th to September 13th. James Watkins (“Eden Lake”) helms this remake of the 2022 Danish psychological horror movie “Gaesterne” about a country house holiday turned nightmare.
Finally, Hulu has announced it will release a feature-length documentary about the 1980s Brat Pack to be released later this year. Andrew McCarthy writes and directs the film revisiting the origins of the famous group and their cultural impact thirty years on.
