LaKeith Stanfield is set to join Mark Wahlberg in filmmaker Shane Black’s new crime thriller “Play Dirty” at Amazon MGM Studios.
The film is an adaptation of Donald E. Westlake’s novels about career criminal anti-hero character Parker. The main protagonist across two dozen novels, he’s an irredeemable and ruthless professional thief with a no-nonsense work ethic.
The books have been adapted for the screen several times before with Lee Marvin, Robert Duvall, Mel Gibson and Jason Statham playing the role.
Mark Wahlberg will star as the hardened professional thief who is, naturally, double-crossed and left for dead. His hunt for revenge, however, brings with it a shot at the biggest heist of his career.
Even so, he still needs to outsmart a South American dictator, the New York mob and the world’s richest man if he hopes to stay alive. Stanfield will play Grofield, an actor-slash-con artist who is Parker’s partner.
Black, Charles Mondry, and Anthony Bagarozzi wrote the script while Jules Daly and Marc Toberoff are producing and Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey are executive producing.
Stanfield recently starred in Disney’s “Haunted Mansion” and the just opened “The Book of Clarence,” both of which have been flops at the box-office even as the actor has scored good notices for his work in them.
