Three years ago almost to the day, the Bethesda Softworks-owned developer MachineGames announced they were creating a new video game based on the “Indiana Jones” franchise.
MachineGames is the developer behind the acclaimed 2014 “Wolfenstein: The New Order” and its various sequels and spin-offs.
At the time, the new game was said to be an original story that won’t adapt any specific previous film or game title, and will be executive produced by Todd Howard, creative director of Bethesda Game Studios, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.
Cut to this week, and Xbox will hold a Developer Direct this coming Wednesday during which we’re expected to get a good look at the new game.
Now a new rumor from the Xbox Infinite Podcast (via ComicBook.com) indicates MachineGames has managed enlist the help of three notable developers in gaming to handle support and co-development duties.
Those rumored names? Post-Bungie “Halo” franchise handlers 343 Industries, “Doom” creators id Software, and “Hi-Fi Rush” developers Tango Gameworks.
The report follows in the wake of eagle-eyed fans discovering Lucasfilm has apparently registered multiple trademarks and domains for “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” which is believed to be the game’s title.
“Indiana Jones” had numerous game adaptations in the 1990s and early 2000s, but it has been well over a decade since the last non-LEGO Indy game arrived – a void filled by Naughty Dog’s “Uncharted” and Crystal Dynamics’ “Tomb Raider” franchises since the mid-2000s.
