By Though he came back for a guest spot on “Hawkeye,” Vincent D’Onofrio finally and properly revived his Wilson Fisk/Kingpin character from Netflix’s “Daredevil” series in the recently released “Echo”.
He’s continuing on with the character too in the upcoming “Daredevil: Born Again” series. That project was shut down during the strikes, is getting a creative overhaul and will return to filming across a good chunk of the next few months.
Due to the overhaul, and the quite different portrayals of the character in “Hawkeye” and “Echo,” it begs the question, what kind of Kingpin are we getting?
In a new Post-Credit Podcast interview, D’Onofrio gave a quick status update on how ‘Born Again’ is going:
“We’re in the middle of the production, and it’s coming out great, and we’re putting everything we can into and trying to get it right no matter how long it takes us to do that.
What’s going on right now is that Charlie Cox and I are extremely happy with what’s happening. Like, I’m right in the middle of playing Wilson Fisk, that character, so I’m stuck in this place. I know everything about it, but I can’t say a word about it.”
Asked if ‘Born Again’ will fall under the Marvel Spotlights banner, he confirms the show will tonally be akin to “Echo” and the original “Daredevil,” he says
“Oh, for sure. I mean, that’s just my opinion; I would imagine it would be. Nobody has said, ‘Hey, did you know this is happening?’ No, no one has said that, but it is of the same tone and feel [of ‘Echo’]. The attention that the big bosses are giving to it is extraordinary, and Charlie and I are amazed about how much they care about this series, and I can’t imagine it being treated any less.”
The comments come in the wake of Disney+ adding the Marvel Netflix shows to the official Marvel timeline, and reports of Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll returning to the roles of Foggy and Karen respectively in ‘Born Again’.
“Daredevil: Born Again” is expected out sometime next year.
