By Warner Bros. Pictures has pulled “Parasite,” “The Host” and “Memories of Murder” director Bong Joon-ho’s new sci-fi feature “Mickey 17” from its release calendar.
Robert Pattinson, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun and Naomi Ackie star in the sci-fi feature based on Edward Ashton’s novel.
The story follows Mickey, a disposable employee sent to colonise an ice world, and soon realises that his body can regenerate after death but with his memories still preserved.
As a result of the pulling, Adam Wingard’s “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” is being moved up by two weeks from April 12th to March 29th and will get a simultaneous IMAX bow. There are no other major new releases that week.
The delay of “Mickey 17” has long been rumored, but now it’s confirmed and is said to be due to production shifts caused by the strikes. Don’t worry, it’s expected to settle on a new date fairly quickly.
There have also long been rumors the film is targeting a splashy premiere at Cannes in May, where Bong has had multiple successes – including his Oscar Best Picture-winning film “Parasite”.
