Lucasfilm has officially confirmed that a second season of its “Star Wars: Ahsoka” series is in development with creator Dave Filoni.

The news came as part of the reveal announcement of the new “Star Wars” film “The Mandalorian & Grogu” to be directed by Jon Favreau.

The announcement officially said: “‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ will lead Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate, including films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni, who is also currently developing ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2, among those in the works.”

Favreau and Filoni worked together on “The Mandalorian” TV series for three seasons, a series which is more Favreau’s baby as such whereas “Ahsoka” is very much Filoni’s.

The news today suggests a fourth season of “The Mandalorian” has been scrapped, or at least delayed for some time, with the movie coming next.

It also suggests Filoni’s movie is some time off which makes an “Ahsoka” second season likely to come before that and lead into his movie which is expected to wrap up the storyline.

“Ahsoka” aired its first season finale on October 3rd. Rosario Dawson as the fan-favorite Jedi Ahsoka Tano character trying to save the galaxy from Grand Admiral Thrawn, a new threat after the fall of the Galactic Empire.

The series also starred Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as New Republic general Hera Syndulla, David Tennant as the droid Huyang, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elspeth, the late Ray Stevenson as Dark Jedi Baylan Skoll, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn and Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger.
