Australian actor Sam Worthington is gearing up to get back to work on the “Avatar” franchise.

Appearing at the New York City premiere of the mid-air heist thriller “Lift,” the 47-year-old Worthington tells People Magazine: “We go back to work on it [Avatar] in a month and it’s big. It’s bigger than you can imagine”.

Filmmaker James Cameron has already shot the third film in the series along with part of the fourth. What’s not clear from this statement is whether the filming involves new or revised scenes for the third film, or the start of shooting on the remainder of the fourth and fifth films.

Previously Cameron indicated to the same outlet that filming on the remainder of the fourth and fifth likely won’t get underway until three is released.

Worthington plays the lead role of Jake Sully in the films alongside Zoe Saldana as Neytiri. The second film, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” released just over a year ago and went on to make a massive $2.3 billion worldwide.

“Avatar 3” is currently on track for a December 19th 2025 opening. Fourth and fifth films in the series are targeting 2029 and 2031 debuts.
