The other day actor/filmmaker George Clooney confirmed that there was already a script for an “Ocean’s 14” film – one separate from the previously announced “Oceans” prequel starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
Director Steven Soderbergh was the mastermind behind the trilogy starring Clooney and Brad Pitt among others, but was only a producer on “Ocean’s 8”.
The obvious question has arisen as to whether Soderbergh would want to direct “Ocean’s 14” considering he previously said back in 2008 that he wasn’t interested in doing any more in the wake of Bernie Mac’s passing.
That’s still the case according to The Playlist whose sources say Clooney and producing partner Grant Heslov, who both co-wrote the script, did contact Soderbergh to see if he was interested.
Their sources claim he has zero interest, and he allegedly didn’t even want to read a script but has given the pair his blessing to move forward however they wish.
It begs the obvious question as to who might take on the gig, with Clooney directing the film himself being the obvious bit of speculation, but it’s just as likely, if not more so, that he’ll let someone else take the job.
There are still multiple complications in the way though, from the cost and availability issues to get much of the original cast back together, to the rival “Oceans” prequel in the works with Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie. For now, the project still remains in development.
