Earlier this week Jonathan Majors was recently found guilty of harassment and assault in the third degree in court, resulting in his almost immediate firing by Marvel Studios.
Majors played variations of the Kang the Conqueror character in both “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and across both seasons of “Loki” – a being able to travel between timelines and dimensions and consorting with alternate versions of himself.
This was all leading up to the planned 2026 crossover film “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty”. Following his firing, that film’s title was changed to “Avenger 5” and it’s not known yet if Marvel will either write out the character or recast.
If they go the recast route, one name that has popped up online a lot as a potential replacement is former “Star Wars” star John Boyega. When that suggestion was made to Boyega himself on Twitter today, he had a response.
That response? A gif of Donkey from “Shrek” shaking his head with a very clear ‘no’ sign. The response isn’t surprising as while he may have dabbled in Hollywood franchises in the past, the actor has no desire to go back and has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with that approach.
Boyega previously rejected the idea of working in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film before, telling Men’s Health last year that it’s “not in the vision for me now” and he wants to “do nuanced things”. He also says it’s “real hard to top ‘Iron Man’ in that universe.”
