A couple of key release date announcements have come in today.
First up, the Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans-led Christmas action-comedy film “Red One” has been given a November 15th 2024 release date.
The Amazon MGM Studios and Seven Bucks will score a theatrical release first on that date and will be followed by a Prime Video premiere at a later time.
Test screening scores for the film are reportedly “through the roof”. J.K. Simmons, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and Wesley Kimmel co-star.
Next, Vera Drew’s controversial queer Batman parody “The People’s Joker,” which was infamously pulled from the Toronto Film Festival earlier this year, will hit cinemas on April 5th 2024.
Warner Bros. Discovery, who holds the rights to the Batman franchise, never released a statement about the film. LA-based distributor Altered Innocence has acquired the distribution rights to the very low-budget indie.
Then, Amazon’s “Roadhouse” remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by Doug Liman has locked in a March 21st release date directly on Amazon Prime Video – no theatrical release.
The reimagining of the 1980s cult classic follows ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Gyllenhaal) who takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.
Michael Showalter’s “The Idea Of You”, starring Anne Hathaway as a divorced mom who falls into an unexpected affair with the biggest boyband star (Nicholas Galitzine) in the world at Coachella, has set a May 2nd premiere date also on Amazon Prime.
Finally, Universal Pictures has announced a September 20th 2024 release date for DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming film adaptation of Peter Brown’s bestselling children’s book “The Wild Robot”.
Chris Sanders (“Lilo & Stitch,” “The Croods”) directs the project about a robot named Roz who finds herself stranded on an uninhabited wild island full of hostile animal inhabitants and one orphaned gosling.
