BAFTA winner and Emmy nominee Kari Skogland (“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “The Handmaid’s Tale”) has come onboard to direct the live-action feature “The Age of Legends”.
The project is the first of a planned trilogy of films serving as a prequel to Robert Jordan’s iconic fantasy novel series “The Wheel of Time”.
The film is standalone, no official connection to either Amazon Prime’s ongoing TV series adaptation of ‘Wheel’ or the previously announced “The White Tower,” an animated feature about the mysterious Aes Sedai sisterhood that also serves as a prequel to events within “The Wheel of Time”.
One thing both “The Age of Legenda” and “The White Tower” do have in common is the writer with “Thor” and “X-Men: First Class” scribe Zack Stentz penning the scripts for both projects.
Set several millennia before the timeline of the books, “The Age of Legends” will chart the emergence of ‘The Dark One’ when the world descended into darkness and war.
The film will touch upon the corrosive nature of power and pride, as seen through the tragic tales of the Forsaken – once honored leaders who fell victim to the Dark One’s seduction.
It will also explore the sacrifices of unexpected heroes who rise against the Dark One to defend humanity.
Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon of iwot productions and Ted Field of Radar Pictures are executive producing along with Eva Longoria, James Leon, Mike McGuiness and Justin Smith.
