The first three episodes of Amazon’s “Reacher” have now debuted on Prime Video with the remaining five set to come over the next few weeks into mid-January.

It marks a change for the series, which saw its first season released all at once to become one of the most well-received binge-watches of last year and one of Prime Video’s most-watched shows of all time.

Critical reviews for the second season have been even better so far, with praise very high for its 6’3 star Alan Ritchson whom many hope will continue in the role for a while.

Looks like they’ll get their wish as the 41-year-old actor himself tells Slashfilm he has no plans to exit the role anytime soon and is keen to play the character for as long as possible and would be up for ‘Old Man Reacher’ stories:

“Who knows what my career holds or if the audience will stick around that long. Yeah, if audiences are still showing up 10 years in, why stop? I don’t know. Who knows? I don’t know what the future holds or where my head will be at that point, if I’ll be bored at that point, but I’m … So far I’m anything but bored. I thoroughly enjoy the character and I really want to see a lot of these books that I love brought to life as a fan.”

The series has no shortage of material to draw from with Lee Child having authored 28 books in the series and has the character aging in real time – thus allowing for an actor like Ritchson to keep playing him as he ages.

The first season adapted the first book “The Killing Floor” whilst the second adapts the eleventh book “Bad Luck and Trouble”. The Tom Cruise-led films adapted the ninth and eighteenth books “One Shot” and “Never Go Back”.

A throwaway reference in an early episode of the new season confirms that there are no plans to redo the story “One Shot” for the series as the events already happened off-screen between seasons.

At present, a third season is already in production but which book it is using for its source material hasn’t been revealed as yet.
