One of the biggest streaming releases of the year will arrive just in time for Christmas. Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon is coming to Netflix and now it is coming earlier than expected. Netflix has moved up the release by a few hours, meaning it will now drop on December 21st at 10pm US-ET/7pm US-PT. This still follows a limited theatrical release kicking off in one week in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, and London.

Part two, Rebel Moon – The Scargiver, remains set for an April streaming release.

Zack is going all in on this franchise. In addition to animated supporting shows and other media, he is now actively developing a third film in the franchise which is awaiting the Netflix green light. This is alongside post-production on part two and the animated Twilight of the Gods spin-off.

Most of the character names for Rebel Moon are now known. Sofia Boutella as Kora, Ed Skrein as Admiral Atticus Noble, Charlie Hunnam as Kai, Michiel Huisman as Gunnar, Djimon Hounsou as General, Staz Nair as Tarak, Doona Bae as Nemesis, Ray Fisher as Darrian Bloodaxe (giggle), and E. Duffy as Milius. Anthony Hopkins provides the voice of a robot knight named Jimmy.

Rebel Moon tells the story of a universe controlled by the corrupt government of the Motherworld, the moon of Veldt is threatened by the forces of the Imperium, the army of the Motherworld controlled by Regent Balisarius. Kora, a former member of the Imperium who seeks redemption for her past in the leadership of the oppressive government, tasks herself to recruit warriors from across the galaxy to make a stand against the Motherworld’s forces before they return to the planet.

The Seven Samurai meets The Magnificent Seven… in space, which was Battle Beyond The Stars but hey, who is keeping score?
