Twenty contenders for the visual effects Oscar have been revealed with the titles on their way to the next round of voting.
That round will run from late next week with the twenty list shortened to ten which will be revealed on December 21st.
The final five nominees will be determined during the mid-January voting alongside the other awards with the five final nominations announced on January 23rd.
The shortlist was bizarrely absent some notable titles such “Oppenheimer,” “The Little Mermaid” and several DC adaptations. On the flipside both “Godzilla Minus One” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” were welcome inclusions.
Some who made the list were an unexpected surprise such as George Clooney’s rowing drama “The Boys in the Boat,” and Marvel Studios “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” which has been widely criticised for its VFX.
The contenders are:
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quanumania”
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”
“Barbie”
“The Boys in the Boat”
“The Creator”
“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” (Paramount)
“Godzilla: Minus One”
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”
“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”
“Killers of the Flower Moon”
“The Marvels”
“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One”
“Napoleon”
“Nyad”
“Poor Things”
“Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire”
“Society of the Snow”
“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”
“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts”
“Wonka”
The Oscars themselves will be announced in mid-March.
