Netflix has reportedly won a bidding war for the mid-budget comedy “The Fifth Wheel” starring Kim Kardashian.
Paula Pell (“Sisters,” “Girls5Eva”) and Janine Brito (“Mr. Mayor”) will pen the project with the story under wraps, but Kardashian is playing the eponymous ‘fifth wheel’ alongside a female ensemble cast to be announced at a later date.
Five major studios and streamers were reportedly competing for the film with two backing out at the last minute and Netflix winning the deal.
Kardashian is coming off a role in the most recent season of “American Horror Story” and well as lending her voice to two “Paw Patrol” films. She also still has the hit Hulu series “The Kardashians”.
Kim will reportedly be heavily involved as a producer as well as use her serious influencer status to promote the film via her branding and ad agency.
The deal marks one of the first significant sales made in the wake of the ending of the SAG-AFTRA strike and likely one of the last before year’s end.
