With Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice” sequel having recently finished filming, the project now has several months of post-production before its release in the early Fall next year.
Michael Keaton is back as the eponymous bio-exorcist and ‘ghost with the most’ alongside returnees Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz.
Jenna Ortega stars as Lydia’s daughter with the family serving as the main characters. However, there are some new faces to the franchise as well including Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci.
Specifics of their involvement have been under wraps so far. While attending the Marrakech Film Festival this weekend, Dafoe spoke with Variety and offered details about his new character:
“I haven’t seen any footage yet, but it was fun to do. I play a police officer in the afterlife, so I’m a dead person.
And in life, I was a B-movie action star, but I had an accident and that’s what sent me to the other side. But because of my skills, I became a detective character in the afterlife.
So that’s my job. But it’s colored by the fact of who I was [when I was alive]: a B movie action star.”
The comments follow on from Keaton speaking at length about the movie earlier this year, calling it the most fun he’s had in years because they’re filming it “exactly like we did the first movie” with practical effects where possible and a lot of ‘handmade stuff’.
“Beetlejuice 2” is currently scheduled to debut in cinemas on September 6th 2024. Dafoe can be seen again in the upcoming release of “Poor Things” on December 8th.
