The first of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” spin-offs, “Fear the Walking Dead,” ended recently. However, the showrunners have ideas for further potential spin-offs.
Speaking with Screen Rant in the wake of the show’s end, executive producers Ian B. Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss discussed the future of the show’s characters following the series finale episode.
Writing the two-parter, the pair say they crafted the ending around the idea of leaving the doors open for individual characters to be explored further be it in other series or their own – leaving it up to the network to decide.
Goldberg says the question is really up to franchise steerer Scott Gimple:
“You’ve seen the finale, so these characters’ stories are constructed in such a way that they live on, there is more story to tell. They are going their separate ways, but they’re all carrying the weight of Madison’s and Alicia’s legacy.
And there is certainly a lot more story to tell there, so, we’ll see, I guess is the answer. But our goal was to just bring Fear to a satisfying conclusion, and to leave open the possibility of more storytelling should the powers that be decide that they want more.”
Chambliss adds he has ideas he would like see fleshed out – namely a “Daniel and Skidmark spinoff” or a prequel with Garret Dillahunt’s John Dorie at Humbug’s Gulch.
AMC is already. moving on with its own spin-offs from the main show including the already aired “Dead City” and “Daryl Dixon” which have both been renewed, and the soon-to-come “The Ones Who Live”.
