“Wallace and Gromit” and “Shaun the Sheep” studio Aardman Animations has issued a statement following reports in recent days that the animation company was running out of clay.
Those reports indicated that supply issues meant the studio only had enough clay to make one more film, namely the upcoming “Wallace and Gromit” movie due out next year.
Aardman uses a specific type of modelling clay called Lewis Newplast, an easy-to-mould material that holds its shape under hot studio lights. The reports said the sole manufacturer of said clay had shut down earlier this year with Aardman having bought all remaining stock.
In Aardman’s response posted on Twitter, they say they are “touched about recent concern” and reassure fans that there is “absolutely no need to worry” as the studio already has plans in place for its stock:
“We have high levels of existing stocks of modelling clay to service current and future productions and, like Wallace in his workshop, we have been tinkering away behind the scenes for quite some time with plans in place to ensure a smooth transition to new stocks to continue to make our iconic productions.”
Aardman’s next film is “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget” which will land on Netflix on December 15th. The next “Wallace and Gromit” film is currently set to premiere in 2024.
