Universal Pictures has pushed back the release of the Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt-led action-comedy “The Fall Guy” by two months – moving from March 1st 2024 to May 3rd 2024.
The move sees the film taking over a release slot previously occupied by Marvel’s “Deadpool 3” which has moved to July 26th instead next year.
For now, the film has the entire weekend to itself and it’s a prime weekend – the first weekend of May slot was turned into a hit by “The Mummy” back in 1999 and has been consistently one of the busiest weekends of the year thanks in part to Marvel heavily using the slot. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” opened in that slot this year.
Inspired by the Lee Majors-led 1980s television series of the same name, Gosling stars as Colt Seavers – a battle-scarred stuntman who left the business a year earlier to focus on both his physical and mental health.
He is soon drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie goes missing, a film being directed by his ex Jody Moreno (Blunt).
While the film’s ruthless producer (HannahWaddingham), maneuvers to keep the disappearance of star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) a secret from the studio and the media, Colt performs the film’s most outrageous stunts while trying (with limited success) to charm his way back into Jody’s good graces.
But as the mystery around the missing star deepens, Colt will find himself ensnared in a sinister, criminal plot that will push him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt.
Winston Duke and Stephanie Hsu co-star. Drew Pearce (“Hobbs & Shaw”) penned the film which David Leitch directed.
