Nintendo has announced that “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” has officially become the fastest-selling “Super Mario” game ever.
Speaking about the company’s financial results, Nintendo revealed the game had an immediate and huge impact with the title selling 4.3 million units globally in its first two weeks on sale.
Nintendo says that makes it the fastest-selling “Super Mario” title worldwide since data collection for software sell-through began back in the Wii/DS era.
Nintendo adds that “Super Mario” titles sell consistently over a long period of time and so: “We anticipate this title will be an appealing choice for consumers during the upcoming holiday season and will continue to sell next year onwards as well.”
The game was already the fastest-selling “Super Mario” game ever in Europe and the fastest selling “Super Mario” game on Switch in Japan.
The franchise’s first side-scroller in a decade, the game scored a stellar 92/100 on Metacritic and is expected to be a lock for multiple nominations at this year’s game awards where it’ll face stiff competition from “Baldur’s Gate 3,” “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” “Alan Wake II,” “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,” “Resident Evil 4 Remake,” “Street Fighter 6,” the “Dead Space” remake, and numerous acclaimed indie titles like “Sea of Stars,” “Hi-Fi Rush,” “Cocoon” and “Dave the Diver”.
