Legend of Zelda is hoping to capture some of that Sonic and Mario movie action by heading to the big screen with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Wes Ball, the man behind the  Maze Runner trilogy, as well as the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will helm the live-action feature.

Nintendo Representative Director Shigeru Miyamoto is set to produce the movie. He posted on X  that he and Avi Arad have been working on a live-action version for many years. He said:

“We have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”

This actually makes Lord Of The Rings look macho.

Shigeru Miyamoto actually created Legend of Zelda with Takashi Tezuka in 1986. It follows the boy elf called Link and elegant Princess Zelda as they fight to save the magical land of Hyrule from Ganon, an evil warlord-turned-demon king who seeks to collect all three pieces of the Triforce in order to obtain ultimate power. Legend of Zelda has spawned multiple entries across different platforms and animated TV adaptations and has a huge following having sold over 150 million units.
Mario Bros. Movie raked in an astonishing $1.36 Billion and both Sonic movies earned $725 Million with a third movie imminent. So you can understand why computer game companies are keen to cash in on this cash cow, especially as it seems the day of Superhero movies is on its last legs and a void needs filling. If this movie does well, then expect 10 years of game adaptations until the next trend comes along.

Link is chased by a trannie.
