Netflix is currently working on a screenplay for a third entry in the “Enola Holmes” film franchise starring Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill.
The first film, which is based on the idea of Sherlock Holmes having a decidedly younger sister named Enola who sets out to be a detective, launch in 2020 and was a big early pandemic success story. A sequel launched late last year, both films snagging good reviews.
Collider spoke with Head of Netflix Film executive Scott Stuber at the grand reopening of the American Cinematheque at The Egyptian Theatre Hollywood where the news was revealed.
Stuber says the streamer is very proud of their ‘homegrown star’ and “Stranger Things” breakout Millie Bobby Brown, and they are excited to continue telling Enola’s story with her, saying:
“The Holmes IP is weirdly elastic. Obviously, Warner Bros. did an incredible job with Downey and Jude Law, so this idea that we can extend that IP with her is exciting. So, we’re working once again on a screenplay to try to get that. But yes, aspiration. I’d like to do another one.”
The news comes as Netflix has also premiered the poster for Brown’s new fantasy movie “Damsel” which releases in 2024 and is directed by Oscar-nominated Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.
in the film, a dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive. It will release in the Spring.
