The future of Taylor Sheridan’s Duttonverse came into slightly clearer focus this morning.
Paramount+ has announced two new greenlit series, currently untitled but going by the working names of “1944” and “2024,” set within the same universe as “Yellowstone,” “1883” and “1923”.
Paramount Network has also decided to move the final episodes of “Yellowstone” to air on November 2024, far later than expected but not surprising given the behind-the-scenes turmoil.
The latter of the two new spinoff series, “2024,” is expected to be the Matthew McConaughey-led direct follow-up to “Yellowstone” and thus characters might appear in the flagship show’s final run. The “1944” title has quickly led to speculation of a World War II tale.
President and CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios Chris McCarthy says in a statement:
“Within five years, we grew Yellowstone from a hit U.S. cable show with five million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions – and, we’re just getting started.
On the heels of ‘1883’ and ‘1923’s success, our new planned spinoffs, ‘1944’ and ‘2024,’ will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon – thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.”
Before they come is “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” premiering shortly – that series is not directly connected to the main story but is considered a ‘sister’ of all the other series.
