Remedy Entertainment’s “Alan Wake 2” hit platforms on Friday to rave critical reviews with the PC version at 91/100 and the console at 89/100 on Metacritic.

With the game being hailed as a masterpiece, and one that pushes PC’s to their limit in terms of graphics capabilities, developer Remedy Entertainment has revealed that a New Game+ mode will arrive sometime after the game’s launch.

Why not with the launch? There’s a good reason for that. Along with allowing players to retain all unlocked weapons, and featuring a new Nightmare difficulty level, the new mode will also include an “alternative narrative” that includes new manuscript pages and new video content.

Remedy says the release timing of the New Game+ mode is still to be decided. The game was released this past Friday against stiff competition from last week’s new “Spider-Man” and “Mario” games and faces the next “Call of Duty” coming next week.

Its Metacritic score puts it in the league of battling it out at the Game Awards this year. It has been a highly contentious year with “Baldur’s Gate 3” and “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” still appearing to be the two-horse race to beat.

That said this game, “Super Mario Bros. Wonder,” “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,” “Street Fighter 6,” the “Resident Evil 4” remake, the “Dead Space” remake, and acclaimed smaller titles like “Hi-Fi Rush,” “Dave the Diver” and “Sea of Stars” make this one of the best years of gaming in some time.
