Simon Kinberg, co-creator of the Apple TV+ sci-fi series “Invasion,” has revealed he has an overall four-season plan for the series which is about to wrap its second season run.

The character-driven science fiction drama series was co-created by Kinberg and David Weil and follows an alien invasion through different perspectives around the world. The recent second season sees the aliens escalating their attacks in an all-out war against the humans.

Speaking with Slashfilm about the possibility of a third season, he explained his overall vision for the series saying he sees the first season as a first act of a film.

The second season meanwhile is: “The first 30 minutes of the second act of a movie, which is where you really start to get into the action”. He then goes on to explain his plan for the rest of the series:

“I saw, in my hopes and dreams, a season 3 like the back half of the second act of a movie where now the action is really accelerated, and the challenges are massive and seem insurmountable.

Then if, God willing, we were to have a fourth season, that’s where, for me, it would be the third act of just final conflict and everything erupting, and then resolving. So there was a build, and it did mimic in many ways the structure of a movie.”

As for where things stand with a potential third season, he explains they were working on scripts for a third season before the writer’s strike and now it’s over they’re back at it. He adds Apple has been very happy with the results of the second season:

“The response to season 2 has been really, really positive, and even bigger than season 1. Apple’s been really happy with the show. So fingers crossed we will get a shot at making season 3.”

Golshifteh Farahani, Shioli Kutsuna, Shamier Anderson, India Brown, Billy Barratt, Azhy Robertson, Paddy Holland, Tara Moayedi, Enver Gjokaj, Nedra Marie Taylor, and Naian González Norvind star.

Audrey Chon, David Witz, Alik Sakharov, Andrew Baldwin, and Katie O’Connell Marsh also serve as executive producers.
