Zach Cregger’s 2022 horror hit “Barbarian” is being turned into a single-player video game with an “all-new narrative experience” for consoles and PC.
Diversion3 Entertainment, who delivered the well-regard horror video game adaptations for “Friday the 13th” and “Evil Dead,” is leading development on the title in association with New Regency Pictures.
Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long starred in the film about a young woman who books a rental home in a bad part of town, only to find a man already staying there.
With little choice, she decides to share the rental with the stranger, against her better judgment. Soon, she discovers there is a lot more to worry about than an unfamiliar housemate.
The game is said to be based on the ‘characters and creatures’ of the movie and will “expand on the settings”. Tim Hesse, executive producer of Diversion3 Entertainment says in a statement:
“The film did a magnificent job of not only scaring audiences with its unexpected and horrifying twists and turns, but also in establishing strong characters thrown into terrifying situations. We look forward to exploring these themes further in the game.”
The 2022 film made $46 million at the global box-office off a $4.5-5 million budget.
