What will happen with “Scream VII” is still anybody’s guess at this point.
Spyglass is still developing the film but having lost lead actresses Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, along with planned director Christopher Landon, it seems likely the next entry will be something quite different.
That’s a definite change of plan according to actor Skeet Ulrich. Ulrich was the lead male cast member in the first film and returned, with the help of some CG-assisted de-aging, in last year’s “Scream VI” .
Visions of his Billy Loomis character served as something of an evil Jiminy Cricket for Barrera’s Sam in the movie as she struggled with wondering whether she would end up like her father.
Speaking with Screen Rant recently, Ulrich revealed that Barrera’s character had a three-film arc – one in which she would ultimately come to accept her father’s horrific past:
“I was hoping for exactly that, and that’s sort of the idea that was pitched to me a couple years ago . That it was a three-movie arc , with that in mind. Now, I never saw any of the drafts of seven or anything that… And I don’t know, I mean, it’s possible that it didn’t include any of that as well. But yeah, that was my hope is that if it was going to mean anything, that it directly impacted the plot.”
Since the exit of the lead actresses, there’s been no real visible progress on the movie with speculation high that the studio wants Neve Campbell back as Sidney Prescott – and will likely have to pay a fortune to her to do so.
