Seven actors have joined the cast of “Star Trek: Section 31,” the just begun shooting original movie for the Paramount+ service which stars Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh.

Yeoh reprises her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou from “Star Trek: Discovery” with the film seeing her joining the infamous clandestine special ops division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets.

The group, first introduced in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” acts as a counterbalance to the utopian portrayal of the Federation, carrying out missions that get the task done by any means necessary. There she faces the sins of her past whilst protecting the future.

Joining Yeoh in the fray will be Emmy winner Sam Richardson (“Ted Lasso”), Omari Hardwick (“Power”), Kacey Rahl (“Hannibal”), Sven Ruygrok (“One Piece”), Robert Kazinsky (“Pacific Rim”), Humberly Gonzalez (“Ginny & Georgia) and James Hiroyuki Liao (“Barry”) .

The project was first in development as a series before being retooled as a film with executive producer Alex Kurtzman announcing that filming has now begun on the movie in Canada.

The project is being directed and executive produced by Olatunde Osunsanmi from a screenplay by Craig Sweeny. Yeoh, Sweeny, Aaron Baiers, Rod Rodenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa, and John Weber also executive produce.
