Filming has wrapped on the upcoming sequel to 2021’s live-action “Mortal Kombat” film adaptation. Actor Lewis Tan, who plays Cole Young in the films, posted photos on Instagram from the production’s wrap party.
The news follows a bunch of cryptic photo teases dropped by producer Todd Garner over the last few weeks, showcasing elements of costumes.
The project began shooting back in late June but was halted after just a few days due to the actor’s strike. Filming began again in Queensland, Australia around mid-November – just days after the strike was lifted.
Simon McQuoid directs the new film from a screenplay written by “Moon Knight” head writer Jeremy Slater. Almost all the main cast from the first film are back, including Josh Lawson as Kano despite his apparent on-screen death.
Also back are Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han/Sub-Zero, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Max Huang as Kung Lao, and Chin Han as Shang Tsung.
They will be joined by Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, CJ. Bloomfield as Baraka, Martyn Ford as Emperor Shao Kahn, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Desmond Chiam as Edenian King Jerrod and Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel.
The film has yet to set a release date.
