The Last Of Us season 2 has officially cast Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, the antagonist of Ellie.

For those in the know, Abby is the big butch baddie from the second The Last Of Us game who caused a bit of a commotion when the trailer came out. Everyone freaked out because Abby is buff as fuck and it was thought she was a tranny that had been shoehorned into the story because, well just because.

Well, it turned out that Abby wasn’t a tranny, or a lesbian, and the reason she looked like a white Michelle Obama, was because she realised that to survive an apocalyptic world where fungus zombies run amock, she needed to get on the weights and eat loads of protein. Pretty sensible if you ask me.

When The Last Of Us show was announced, many fans wanted Dever to get the role of Ellie, due to her striking resemblance to the character in the game. However, the role eventually went to Bella Ramsey who to be fair, knocked it out of the park.

Regardless, Kaitlyn has built quite an impressive portfolio for herself, having featured and starred in several hits such as Justified, Last Man Standing, No One Will Save You, and Dopestick. She earned a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination for her work in Dopesick.

Ellie and Kaitlyn – it’s the same picture.

Abbs-olutely Abby

Abby, who in the game is a soldier of the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), who seeks to avenge her father’s death by killing Joel (Pedro “Mandalorian” Passcal). For the show, she is described as “a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved.”

Series co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann announced:

“Our casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material. Nothing matters more than talent, and we’re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro, Bella and the rest of our family.”

I played both The Last Of Us games and they were excellent. And I’ll be honest, the outrage over Abby was unjust as she was an excellently written character and was a welcome addition to the franchise. I’m looking forward to seeing how Denevr does with this role.

“Do you even lift, Bro?”

Huge Success

The Last of Us is proving to be a massive hit with both critics and audiences, except me who left it off my Top 10 TV Shows Of 2023. Not because it’s bad, but when I tune in to see a show about fungus zombies, I want to see fungus zombies. Not long-winded gay-centric episodes that do nothing for the story apart from appeasing the gays.

Anyway, The Last of Us has received multiple awards nominations for its first season, including three Golden Globe nominations as well as 25 Emmy nominations. The Primetime Emmy Awards are due to take place on 15th January and the show has already won eight Emmys at the Creative Arts Emmys. That includes wins for both Nick Offerman and Storm Reid for best guest actor and actress, both of whom appeared in the two boring gay episodes that I whined about earlier.

Season two of The Last of Us is expected to start production in the spring and will return to HBO in 2025. Whether Kaityln is going to butch up for the role is yet to be seen.

Kaitlyn Dever is going to need to wok on those guns!
