Netflix has premiered the teaser trailer for “Steps,” a new animated feature loosely based on the fairy tale Cinderella.

Garfunkel and Oates duo Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci came up with the idea for the film that shifts the story’s perspective to Cinderella’s misunderstood stepsister, Lilith.

When she accidentally transforms her other stepsister, Margot, into a frog and causes the kingdom to be run by a mean girl, the two have to team up with a troll and save their kingdom, proving that so-called villains also deserve happily ever afters.

The film stars Ali Wong as Lilith, Amanda Seyfried as Cinderella,
Stephanie Hsu as Margot, Bette Midler as The Fairy Godmother, Nikki Glaser as Priscilla, Young Mazino as Gef, along with Daniel Radcliffe, LaNisa Renee Frederick, Jordyn Weitz and Peter Dinklage.

“Steps” is directed by Alyce Tzue and John Ripa and produced by Amy Poehler, Jane Hartwell and Kim Lessing. Animation was provided by Netflix Animation Studios’ in-house offices in Los Angeles, Sydney and Vancouver.

Kris Bowers is confirmed to be scoring the film which will have its premiere exclusively on Netflix on November 20th.
