Skydance Sports

If you watched the recently released Mr. Irrelevant trailer, which features David Corenswet as New York Giants player John Tuggle, you may have noticed that the film comes from Skydance Sports. The sub-studio of Skydance Productions predominantly produces documentaries on sports-related stories, but the production company has also dabbled in narrative films that are based on sports stories, which include the Ben Affleck film Air, as well as the upcoming Mr. Irrelevant. A new film that will be coming from the studio is Tommy & Me, which will focus on Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda.

Tommy & Me

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robert De Niro has been tapped to play Lasorda for the film. Tommy & Me comes from Reid Carolin, whose credits include the Channing Tatum film Dog. Carolin will take on both writing and directing duties on the project. Co-writing on the screenplay with Carolin is scribes George Gallo and Cambron Clark.

Details on the film have yet to be announced. Per THR, “Lasorda, who died in 2021 at age 93, spent seven decades with the Dodgers as a player, scout, coach, manager and ambassador in Brooklyn and Los Angeles.

After initially playing for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1945, and then serving two years in the U.S. military, Lasorda eventually made his way back to baseball, first in the minor leagues. He then made his major league debut in 1954 with the then-Brooklyn Dodgers, playing with the team for two seasons.

Lasorda was then traded to the Kansas City Athletics and played as a pitcher for one season. That was the end of his career as a player, but the beginning of his larger turn with the Dodgers.”

Focker-in-Law

As for De Niro, he’ll be returning to the Fockers franchise later this year with Focker-in-Law. The new sequel features Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, Blythe Danner, and Owen Wilson returning to reprise their roles. Skyler Gisondo and Bernie Feldstein play Henry and Samantha, the children of Greg (Stiller) and Pam (Polo), with Ariana Grande as a “ballbuster” engaged to Henry. The film is set to hit theaters on November 25.
