Paul Walker’s brother Cody says he isn’t interested in helping digitally resurrect his late brother for the upcoming “Fast Forever” at Universal Pictures.
Paul died in 2013, partway through production on “Furious 7”, leading to his younger brothers Cody and Caleb helping complete the film by standing in for the late actor.
Digital face replacement was used for select scenes, including the film’s famous ending, often seen as the franchise’s best moment. His character, Brian O’Conner, hasn’t been seen since then, only discussed by other characters or hinted at.
Vin Diesel has hinted that Brian could return for the upcoming eleventh and final instalment. Speaking with EW, Cody Walker says if that’s the case it won’t be with him:
“My stance is, it’s what [Paul’s daughter] Meadow wants to see done; it’s her father. I would not be interested in doing that again.
I love the way his character exited the franchise. They didn’t kill him off; they didn’t do something cheesy like that. It’s beautiful; [Brian] is off raising his kids.
But if they want to do that, if Meadow would like to see that, they don’t need me or Caleb. AI was not a thing back in 2014, so they could do that. There are years of footage that was never used from these other Fast films. They’re the best in the business; they can figure that out.”
Both Walker brothers expressed an interest in returning to continue the legacy of their late sibling, hoping to “have a little cameo and bring Paul back to save the day”, said Caleb at the time, though Cody added, “it would take a lot of thought, and it’d have to be tasteful”.
“Fast Forever” is currently slated to open March 17th 2028, though there are still a lot of questions as to whether the film will make it to the date, with production having not begun as yet.
