By According to Deadline, Amy Madigan has signed on to join Tom Hanks in The Comebacker, an upcoming baseball drama written and directed by Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood).
The Comebacker
Based on a short story by Dave Eggers, The Comebacker will revolve around “a young pitcher for the New York Mets whose life is turned upside down when he gets hit by a batted ball.“
Hanks plays the pitching coach, Callum Turner plays the young pitcher, Patricia Clarkson plays the coach’s wife, and Madigan plays the team’s owner.
Production is slated to kick off in New York this fall, and the film has already been slated for a July 30, 2027 release.
Of course, Hanks already has a classic baseball movie under his belt, as he starred alongside Geena Davis in A League of Their Own. If you’d like to feel old, that was released 34 years ago.
Aunt Gladys Prequel
Madigan won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress after playing Aunt Gladys in Weapons, and there’s been talk of a prequel focusing on her character. Writer/director Zach Cregger is penning the script for the prequel alongside Zach Shields, which Warner Bros. has already announced will be released on September 8, 2028.
Greyhound 2
Hanks is currently wrapping up production on Greyhound 2. In addition to reprising his role as Captain Ernest Krause for the World War II movie, Hanks once again wrote the script, with Aaron Schneider returning to direct. Stephen Graham is also back as Charlie Cole.
The first film told a thrilling story inspired by actual events from the Battle of the Atlantic, based on The Good Shepherd by C.S. Forester. Ernest Krause is a first-time captain who leads a convoy of allied ships carrying thousands of soldiers across the treacherous waters of the “Black Pit” to the front lines of WWII. With no air cover protection for five days, Captain Krause and his convoy battled the surrounding enemy Nazi U-boats to give the Allies a chance to win the war.
The sequel finds Captain Krause and the Greyhound crew from the beaches of Normandy to the Pacific Ocean as they help turn the tide of the war.
